Cheeky — Giant Nanas in your face

The giant Nanas of Niki de Saint Phalle are in-your-face cheeky and impossible to ignore. Kids love them and so do I.

Several of her polyester sculptures, including the famous Nikigator mosaic dragon sculpture are on display at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park. The guardian Angle (L’Ange Protecteur) is shown above, and Poet and Muse (Le Poete et la Muse) is below.

It’s always fun to visit Balboa Park and the Mingei. Their next show is a blockbuster on Navajo Weaving; don’t miss it. The show was being installed when we visited, and opens tomorrow. We could see several of the works from a distance, however, beautiful.

Cheers, Carto
