The lighthouse at Montara Point, Nov., 2016

I love to visit Montara Lighthouse — the horizon aways seems new or different in some way. The lighthouse is doing symbolic duty these days, and the buildings have been converted to an hostel, which is being brought up to standards for the new travel season in 2017. Meanwhile, a few miles away in Princeton something new is about to happen.

The Mavericks surfing break is at Princeton,  and this year’s event will include women surfers (I believe that’s a first). The Mavericks Event Center overlooks Pillar Point Harbor.
